How should I design a useful interface for smart glasses?
Begin with the information the wearer needs next and the smallest action they need to take. Use readable text, an obvious current state and a simple way to dismiss or return. Longer explanations and editing can move to a companion screen when the task needs them.
Design around a glance and a decision
A wearable interface often appears while the person is doing something else. A heading that identifies the task and a concise next step can be more useful than a reduced version of a phone dashboard. Clear pending, complete and disconnected states prevent the wearer from guessing what happened.
Rehearse the actual task on the device: read the update, act, recover from a mistake and return to the previous activity. A polished editor preview cannot reveal how much attention a control sequence takes while wearing the glasses.
