How do prescription inserts differ from fitted lenses in smart glasses?
An insert adds a separate corrective lens assembly inside the smart glasses. Fitted prescription lenses form part of the frame’s main lens arrangement. The practical differences include installation, cleaning and alignment; some display products integrate prescription correction and display optics in the same unit. The exact model determines which corrections and fittings are supported.
Two documented approaches to prescription lenses
Even Realities describes G2’s prescription and display as one integrated unit. Vuzix’s Blade installation guide describes a separate prescription lens assembly attached where the removable nose bridge was fitted. These examples make the distinction more concrete: the corrective component occupies a different place and follows a different installation process.
The ordering route matters too. Even’s prescription FAQ says G2 single-vision prescriptions can be ordered online, while progressive lenses are available through optician partners. That is a product-specific distinction, not a rule for all integrated lenses. For a trial, use the correction arrangement you intend to wear and ask the fitter how cleaning, adjustment and later lens replacement work for that model.
