How should I choose a smart-glasses category?
Start with the information you want to receive or capture. Choose audio for a spoken experience, a display for visible information, a camera for capture, or spatial AR for content attached to the surrounding world. Then compare products within the relevant category.
Make the task concrete enough to exclude options
"I want AI glasses" leaves almost everything on the shortlist. "I want to read the next line of a talk without looking down" immediately requires a display and a usable teleprompter workflow. We would also specify where the task happens and which devices remain nearby. That prevents discovering too late that the experience depends on a laptop or phone you intended to leave behind.
Your first shortlist can be small. For each candidate, write the exact feature that solves the task and the source that documents it. If the documentation describes a different output, remove the candidate before spending time comparing battery claims or frame colors.
Start with the job you want done
This table compares kinds of output, not named products. A device may span several rows, and its application still needs to support the particular task.
