Can smart glasses translate speech without an internet connection?

Offline speech translation requires every necessary stage to work locally: speech recognition, translation resources and delivery of the result. Downloaded text-translation models alone do not establish an offline speech workflow. Google ML Kit, for example, documents on-device text translation; that is one part of the chain.

Downloaded languages are only part of the answer

The glasses may rely on a phone for processing and still work without internet, provided the required local resources and connection are available. Alternatively, an app can display a downloaded language while still depending on a remote speech service. The exact application determines the result.

To distinguish these cases, start a new session without internet and speak a sentence the system has not already processed. Test both conversation directions and a restart, because cached output from an earlier online session proves very little about fresh offline translation.
