How does live translation work in smart glasses?
A live-translation system captures speech, recognizes what was said, translates it into another language and presents the result as text or audio. Some systems combine parts of that process, but the stages are useful for understanding where mistakes and delays enter the conversation.
A translation can go wrong before translation begins
If a microphone misses a name or speech recognition changes a number, the translation stage receives the wrong words. If the source words are correct but the meaning changes in the other language, the problem is further along the chain. Display delivery can add a separate delay after a result is ready.
We start troubleshooting with the original recognized text when the app makes it available. That helps distinguish “the system heard the wrong phrase” from “the system translated the phrase poorly,” which call for different fixes.
