Why does optical efficiency matter in smart glasses?

It affects how effectively the optical system delivers useful display light. It matters to the assembly, but an optical-efficiency figure by itself does not establish complete-glasses battery life. Other electronics and workloads also consume power.

Ask what the figure includes

We would want the source, optical configuration and measurement conditions alongside the number. Results for a bare component and a complete display system can have different boundaries. A comparison is only meaningful when the figures describe comparable things.

If a supplier reports a brighter image, ask whether the input power also changed and where the image was measured. A center-position value is not a description of every viewing position. Keep the optical comparison separate from a battery trial involving radios, microphones, applications and user interactions.
