Why does smart-glasses text look different against different backgrounds?
In an optical see-through display, digital light is added to the real scene. The background remains visible and can change the contrast of the text. A clean screenshot does not include that real-world variation.
Read the cue where it will be used
Compare the same card against a plain indoor surface and a more visually busy scene. The point is to see whether the important words remain easy to locate, not simply whether any light is visible. A change in surroundings can affect the reading experience even when the application renders identical pixels.
A name displayed over a plain wall and the same name displayed over shelves can demand different effort. Preserve the text size and layout during the comparison. Then adjust the design deliberately, perhaps by shortening the cue or changing placement, rather than treating one favorable background as universal proof of readability.
